It could be an interesting council session this evening for anyone who wants to escape the heat for the air conditioning at City Hall.
New treasurer Al Horsman is to lead a council budget workshop, outlining some of the challenges of the coming year and attempting to get a sense of the type of tax increa with which councillors would be comfortable next year.
It could get sticky.
Some councillors have already said the 3 per cent suggested by staff sounds like a fair number, but at least one has suggested an increase somewhere south of that should be the goal.
The workshop gets underway at 6 p.m.

I don't know how many people read this blog but if your working as hard as I am just trying to break even and are fed up with constant municipal tax increases, contact your City Councillors and demand a tax freeze.
After all it's not the councillor who has to be comfortable with the level of taxation in this city, it's her/his constituents whose level of comfort is important.
Who knows if enough of us call maybe we can make a difference.

I took my own advice and called both my councillors and asked that they both work as hard as they could to bring in a zero tax increase. Both thanked me for calling and said they would do what they could but the die is probably already cast.
One comment from one of my councillors stuck with me though. My councillor told me that people like me, that is the people who pay the bills, never call and make their views known and that it was refreshing to hear from someone like me. I'm tellin' ya guys if enough of us call and demand that the line be held on taxes it can happen!
