New city committee memberships confirmed

City councillors this week ratified the membership of the various standing committees this week. Mayor Karen Farbridge automatically has a seat on all committees. Here are the other members:

Audit -- Furfaro, Kovach, Wettstein

Community and Social Services -- Burcher, Laidlaw, Van Hellemond

Corporate Administration, Finance and Enterprise -- Kovach, Laidlaw, Wettstein

Operations, Transit and Emergency Services -- Bell, Furfaro, Van Hellemond

Planning and Building, Engineering and Environment -- Bell, Burcher, Guthrie

I think each committee appoints its chair. Usually I think it was done the same time, but then under Fartbridge so much has changed.

Actually I believe the reformed committees chose their chairs at, or immediately prior to, their first meeting.

Why don't certain of the councillors get to lead on city committees - Hofland, Piper, Dennis? Others get to be on 2 - Bell, Wettstein, Kovach, Burcher? Doesn't make sense.

Are these all of the Comittees? Where is Findlay and is there anyone else missing? Which ones are easier and/or more "fun" or full of prestige? Is there any apparent nepotism at work? Enquiring mind(s) wants to know.

Yes, thanks Craig. When I wrote the post late Friday afternoon I hadn't realized the page from the last council agenda had only the 'members' listed and not the chairs. Strange it would be presented in such a way.

Thank you, gentlemen. Scott, the thanks in main goes to you for bringing forward the change in committees, something we tend to overlook despite all of the work that happens at that level.

It's too soon for me to read the tea leaves on what the changes will mean for the city, though the Chairs will likely come with agenda items.

So, just checked the new members against the old members listed on the GCL website and apparently there are no changes whatsoever to members or chairs. I guess everyone liked what they were doing.
