If city keep spending on new hiring and dream city improvement projects discussed earlier we will have to resort to something like this for city roads too

SSSSSHHHHHHH, Don't anybody bring up the idea of putting plows on city buses, might make for interesting sidewalk plowing though :)

My Mom has a walker, if the pay was right she might be game for it lol. I'll ask her...........

Perhaps our leaders can figure out a way to tax that person or perhaps require a permit to have a plow on his/her walker. Or maybe someone will stand up at a council meeting and complain that they are disrupting her enjoyment of the beautiful snow and a bylaw could be passed against it?

Then she'd be a "snivelling snow snitch" let's see you say that one five times fast.

The dirty buggers widened my sidewalk on Northumberland St., then said that because of that my bush was overhanging, trimmed it a bit and then sent me a bill for $140! So what happens first snowfall? It appears to be the only sidewalk that they didn't plow! Give the old coot with the walker anyday. At least there'll be less chance of collisions and the work'll get down quicker and better.

Not bad! Perhaps it should have some sort of flag on the wing-tips though. And maybe a blue light.
All in all that gentleman may stand a better chance of retaining an operating license than a certain municipality.

So my street (quiet, not on a bus route, not a short-cut to anything) has been plowed twice -- TWICE!! -- in the last few days. It was actually easier to drive on when it had a few cms of snow than after they scraped that off and left a nice icy sheen!

Hi Scott
Twice you say....well you should feel lucky.
My Street Ferndale ave gets plowed twice the
whole season and that is after we complain to
the city.

I don't feel lucky at all. I don't think we've had enough snow to warrant plowing it once, never mind twice, and like I said it was much harder to drive on afterwards both times because it was like ice.
And then a few minutes ago a plow drove along my street with the blade up. Like I said my street doesn't go anywhere, so why would a plow be on it unless it's plowing?

This fella probably lives on a block like mine where the houses have been bought up by absentee landlords to rent to students. Neither landlords or their student renters understand what "neighbourly" means....which would be to give this gentleman a hand.

Scott, yes, with the temps we have had a road will quickly get slick if it isn't salted pretty much at the same time as when it is being cleared. The friction of the blade on the road and near freezing temps quickly makes a thin but slick skin. Where leaving a road uncleared becomes more problematic is when the ruts that are cut by your tires during the day freeze into hard ruts once the temps drop.

I think we are on to something. Last night we heard plow scrap my north west street when there is no snow on the road. Is this about using up 2012 snow clearing budget?

Scott, may your spammers be few in 2013. Thanks for maintaining this blog, especially for the times and ways it takes you away from family.
Happy New Year, everyone. (All the best, DC!)
Gratefully, C.

I just hope that the city doesn't bring any weird laws into the city, if they actually read the news of what goes on in other cities with them bringing in new laws for the new years Guelph might get ideas.
