QB Rankings? Already?
You bet. The hard-working boys (OK, Rob Pettapiece) at The CIS Blog have ranked the quarterbacks of the CIS using the 'adjusted net yards per pass attempt formula' (which counts sack yardage, adds 10 yards per TD, and penalizes 45 yards per INT). No word if rushing yards and rushing touchdowns are a factor.
That said, Gryphons fans will be interested in knowing pivot Justin Dunk ranked 14th in 2007 and 12th in 2006.
There is already debate brewing on the comment boards about how St. Mary's Erik Glavic, ranked fourth, beat Ottawa's Josh Sacobie, ranked first, for the Hec Crighton award last year.
Here's the thing, quarterbacking isn't all about passing yardage and passing touchdowns. Those alone don't make a great quarterback. What Justin Dunk did last season, running willy nilly all over the field for 450 yards in the regular season and scoring two majors on the ground in a playoff game at McMaster, is something Sacobie can't do as well. Then again, Dunk can't sling it Adam Archibald could. And Michael Faulds had a paper line last season, so he was sacked and sacked again. And so on. At some point, more than numbers have to help break a "tie" when voting for things like the Hec. Football's not baseball. The numbers mean a lot, but maybe not as much.
Anyway, click on over to The CIS Blog and check out the rankings here.
