Seriously. That's a question I get asked at just about every OUA basketball and football game I cover. And, for kicks and shock and awe, I usually toss one out there. I'm usually pretty close. But I certainly wouldn't pony up any cash to back my own book — so don't even think about asking to take some of that action.
Anyway, today, when I came into work, my co-worker Tony Saxon asked for a spread in the Waterloo at Western game. I didn't hesitate to spit out Western by 22 1/2. Yup, 22 1/2. Western's that good and Waterloo can't possibly put together a fourth win in a row can they?
Discuss.

Actually, 22 and a half isn't that far off from what my computer tells me. (It says Western by 18.5.)

Maybe I'm better at this than I thought. Scary.

I think 22.5 is a little high. Look at OUA West playoff games historically... even blowouts usually top out in the 15-to-17-point range. I'd say Western by 14.

Not that I'm *picking* Western by 14. As a loyal Waterloo supporter, I have to go with the upset. But 14 is what Vegas would say. ;-)

I would have to say that 22.5 is WAY too high. My choice on the spread if I was setting the line: Western by 10.5
Not that I'm picking them to win, just setting the line.

Who knows, maybe we're all going to be proved very wrong: Waterloo is up by 10 points after the first.
But I still like my 18.5 from above - I wasn't too far off on Friday's games (http://www.cisblog.ca/2009/02/basketball-playoff-spreads.html), especially the one-sided ones with Concordia and UBC.

Yeah, I was way off.... :)

And it was far closer than the final 12-point margin. It was a five-point game with a few minutes left. Then comes a horrible charge call on McIntyre, and even more horrible shooting by all Warriors not named McIntyre (rest of Waterloo shot 25 percent, including two oh-fers). Warriors *should* have won that game.
