In Guelph . . .

Posted by Roger

The city will have a couple of visitors today related to the byelection.

Defence Minister Peter MacKay will be going door-to-door with Conservative candidate Gloria Kovach.

Mercury staff will also be meeting with Jennifer Wright, "the founder and chief environmental activist of Green Shift."

"Green Shift™ has launched an $8.75 million suit against the Liberal Party of Canada for infringement of trademark because of the Party’s unauthorized use of the Green Shift name for their proposed carbon tax program,"  her press release says.

I'm quite curious, could you clear something up for me? Was it the Mercury that sought out Jennifer Wright for an interview, or did she want to talk with your paper? If it's the former, then one has to wonder why the Merc finds it necessary to interject this issue into the campaign. If it's the latter, then it would appear Jennifer Wright actually is political, despite you assertions to the contrary, attempting to influence a by-election with her lawsuit. Which is it, neither seems particularly relevant to the people of Guelph in the grand scheme? I'm sure Conservatives and NDP supporters will disagree, which sort of says it all, doesn't it?

Wow Jeff. I'm trying to count how many straw men you managed to work into one paragraph....

Pretty simple question really, who contacted who??

Amazing. I'm guessing the general Liberal consensus is that Jennifer Wright should just shut up and go away? The Liberal Party is marketing the Green Shift as part of their (by)election platform. It makes sense for her to defend her brand within the same area, especially in a City as environmentally conscious as Guelph. She is doing everything possible to protect her brand and her business. The Liberal party forced Jennifer Wright into the political realm by appropriating her brand. It's the height of arrogance to now try and accuse her of some ulterior motive for fighting in the same realm. Apparently Jennifer Wright disagrees with the Liberal Party stance that she should be happy with all the attention they're gaining for her. Funny thing that. It's her right, Liberal Party notwithstanding.

Jeff makes a very valid point. What is the answer?

Perhaps she'll succeed in getting Dion to take the eff out of his green shift...

Can we riff a bit instead of punching and kicking? Just for a moment or two...

S.Harper's stuck green downshifting into a tarsands frightmare. Maybe's in green SHIFTLOCK step with Dion.

Jack lays a ton of Green on the King campaign....

Roll on September 8th so we can get quickly to the big show and elect our next mouldy* minority government.

* slightly obscure but green none the less.

Jeff and Jacoub, I suggest you read the paper. I'm sure all will be revealed. Somehow I don't think this is a grand conspiracy on the part of the Mercury. Besides, I don't seem to remember Stephane Dion filing any complaints about the coverage when he was suing Gilles Duceppe.

Suggest they read the paper? Why not just tell us if it's no big deal?
