OK, so Guelph singer/songwriter SarahJ hasn't had to battle 700 Persians to the death. But in making it to the national level of the she's swinging a righteous guitar and putting competitors down with her powerful voice and original songs. And she's only 15. Suck on that, King Leonidas.
Since September of last year, SarahJ has been putting herself firmly in the path of fame, methodically winning numerous competitions to get to the national level of a battle of the bands competition. She easily took first prize last month at the Randy River Final Cut battle of the bands in Kitchener, beating a wide swatch of talented area groups.
SarahJ's first place finish moved her on to the national competition and she needs your help! Voting has already started, but you have until February 23 to cast your online ballot for her stylish and fun original songs. You can listen to her stuff on her supernova page (I recommend her song Break Through) and cast your vote here. You have to register at the site, but once you're registered, you can vote once every day. What are you waiting for? Go listen and vote, vote, vote! The winner will be announced Feburary 24.
I'm telling you now, if you don't hear this girl on the radio within the next two years, I will eat my hat.
I should also note that Guelph group The Canned Goods came in third at the same show — two Guelph talents in the top three? Nice showing guys! Kitchener rockers Cavernosa placed second and Cambridge hip-hopper Knewrawtick nabbed a wildcard spot. His Get Down (2013 Freestyle) is SICK. It just clicks along, this easy little flow. I wish it was like, two or three minutes longer. Short and oh-so sweet, it provides a nice intro for his Bhuddha Minded Prophet mixtape, available on his myspace.
