Photog's comments: I wanted to show the lineup outside in context with what was happening inside.

GUELPH, ON. March 25, 2009 - Company Blonde performs 'First Aid' during a Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival preview event at the University of Guelph Wednesday afternoon. (Guelph Mercury/Ryan Pfeiffer)

Photog's comments: Both of these photos were shot at the same event, one from the third floor of the atrium and one from ground level. 'Speed' lent itself nicely to a shot from above. The dancers were moving quite slowly and at interesting angles. Company Blonde's performance involved more facial expressions and worked well shooting from eye level.

GUELPH, ON. March 24, 2009 - Environmentalist Severn Cullis-Suzuki looks at pictures at the Guelph Lake Nature Centre Tuesday afternoon. Severn was visiting a group of grade eleven and grade three students attending the centre as part of their school's outdoor education program. (Guelph Mercury/Ryan Pfeiffer)

Photog's comments: The top picture was taken outside on a bright sunny day. Luckily Severn was standing with the sun directly behind her allowing me to expose for the shadow on her face. I used a long lens to frame her with trees in the background. The bottom picture was taken inside with great window light coming from two sides of the room. The plants painted on the wall help tell a bit more of the story.

GUELPH, ON. March 23, 2009 - University of Guelph physics professor Diane Nalini is releasing the album 'Kiss Me Like That' May 24, 2009. Advanced copies will be available during her concert at War Memorial Hall Friday, March 27 at 8:00 p.m. (Guelph Mercury/Ryan Pfeiffer)

Photog's comments: I setup an off-camera umbrella light to Diane's right and shot photos while she was being interviewed. As always, I tried to use the background as a frame for the subject. At this point in the interview she was talking about planets and space so she was gesturing with her hands.

Photog's comments: I shot the portrait first. There is an umbrella setup camera left and a bare flash sitting poolside to the right of the camera. In the second image Alex is throwing the ball to her coach who is standing poolside near an umbrella.

Photog's comments: Today is my last day at the Guelph Mercury, this will be my last picture posted on Mercury Visuals.
